Mindful Worship Meditation #26 - The Fruit of the Spirit is Joy

April 19th, 2009 - Categories: Guided Meditations, Premium Guided Meditations

Listening to Meditation on an iPod on the Beach Experiencing JoyThis meditation is the third of a ten part series on The Fruit of the Spirit. So often, when we hear the word joy, we think about happiness. However, joy in a Christian’s life is much more than mere happiness. In this guided Christian meditation, you’ll contemplate some of the New Testament passages that explain what joy is, the things the Holy Spirit uses to produce joy, and how we can apply that joy in our walk with Christ. Joy is not something we produce on our own, but rather, the fruit of the Spirit is Joy.

We began this series with a contemplative overview of The Fruit of the Spirit, and then contemplated how The Fruit of the Spirit is Love. If you would like to do this particular series of biblical meditations in order, you’ll want to begin with these two meditations. I’ve had an incredible experience with God in my life as He has used the time I’ve spent meditating on these passages and asking the Holy Spirit to produce better quality fruit in my life. I’d love to hear about your own experiences in the comments. (Photo by Seth Anderson. Original on flickr. Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic License)

Mindful Worship Meditation #25 - The Fruit of the Spirit is Love

April 12th, 2009 - Categories: Guided Meditations, Premium Guided Meditations

Agape - Heart in Bible PagesThis meditation is the second of a ten part series on The Fruit of the Spirit. In Paul’s list of the fruits in Galatians, he lists love first. Love is the primary fruit and in fact, all the other fruits are not possible without love. In Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth, he listed sixteen qualities of Christian love. In this meditation, you will contemplate these sixteen qualities from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: what they are, how God expresses them perfectly, and how you express them in your own life. The fruit of the Spirit is Love.

Many listeners have asked about a meditation on the expressions of love found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. This seemed like a perfect place to dig into those attributes. I didn’t set out to write a guided meditation that was nearly an hour long, but this passage is so rich, it seemed the only way to get everything in. I hope you grow in your own expression of love as you meditate with me on those passages–I know I certainly have.

Mindful Worship Meditation #24 - The Fruit of the Spirit, is the first part of this christian meditation series; it provides an overview of the nine fruits of the spirit. If you would like to do this particular series of biblical meditations in order, that is the place to begin. (Photo by Marcelino Rapayla Jr. Original on flickr. Mindful Worship Meditation #24 - The Fruit of the Spirit

April 5th, 2009 - Categories: Free Guided Meditations, Guided Meditations

Fruit - A Symphony of ColorsWhen we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit begins to live in us so He can teach us and lead us. As He lives in us, and we grow in Him, He builds nine characteristics of Godliness in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These are all characteristics that all followers of Jesus should be producing in our lives. In this meditation, you will contemplate the The Fruit of the Spirit in your own life.

This particular meditation provides an overview of the nine fruits of the Spirit. In the upcoming guided Christian meditations, we will focus on each of the individual fruits more deeply, so that God may more plant them more deeply in our hearts. Be sure to let me know about your experience with this Christian guided meditation in the comments. (Photo by Nicu Buculei. Original on flickr. Mindful Worship Meditation #23 - Then I Will Teach

March 29th, 2009 - Categories: Guided Meditations, Premium Guided Meditations

Peace Be With YouThis meditation is the last of a three part series on Psalm 51. In Mindful Worship Meditation #21 - Have Mercy on Me, O God, we examined the first 6 verses as David laments over his sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah, and asks God to forgive him. In Mindful Worship Meditation #22 - Create in Me a Pure Heart, we contemplated verses 7 through 12 where David asks God to clean him, renew him, and restore him. In this mediation we see David’s response to God’s grace. He begins by saying, Then I Will Teach.

When I originally began to write the first meditation in this series, I was only going to do a few particular verses from this Psalm. As I meditated on it in my own life though, I realized that every line holds life-changing truth that needs to be seriously contemplated. A single meditation would probably be more than an hour long though, so I decided to present it in a three-part series. This is the last of those three parts. I am now planning to do more series type meditations that will build and elaborate on each other and allow us to go deeper into the study and personal application of God’s Word. Let me know what you think in the comments. (Photo by Anna Gay. Original on flickr. Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.0 Generic License)

Mindful Worship Meditation #22 - Create in Me a Pure Heart

White Bleeding Heart FlowersThis meditation is the second of a three part series on Psalm 51. In Mindful Worship Meditation #21 - Have Mercy on Me, O God, we examined the first 6 verses as David laments over his sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah, and asks God to forgive him. In this meditation, you will contemplate verses 7 through 12 where David asks God to clean him, renew him, and restore him. In Mindful Worship Meditation #15 you asked God to Guard Your Heart; in this meditation you ask God to Create in Me a Pure Heart.

When I originally began to write the first meditation in this series, I was only going to do a few particular verses from this Psalm. As I meditated on it in my own life though, I realized that every line holds life-changing truth that needs to be seriously contemplated. Mindful Worship Meditation #21 - Have Mercy On Me O God

March 15th, 2009 - Categories: Guided Meditations, Premium Guided Meditations

Mercy: Something to be thankful forPsalm 51 is David’s prayer of repentance after he sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheba and having her husband Uriah killed. We all have sin in our lives because we have a sin nature. Although we don’t like to often think about our sin, it is the reason Jesus came and died for us. In this meditation you will identify a specific sin from your own life and then apply David’s words to that sin in your life to help you grow more into God’s image. Have Mercy on Me, O God.

When I originally began to write this meditation, I was only going to do a few particular verses from this Psalm. As I meditated on it in my own life though, I realized that every line holds life-changing truth that Christians need to seriously contemplate and apply to their lives. Articles and Blog Posts about Christian Meditation - Volume 1

March 13th, 2009 - Categories: News

Girl Reading Meditaton Articles on Her ComputerOne of the things I love the most about the Internet is how so many people freely share much of their knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. There is a lot of really good information online about Christian meditation and meditating on the Bible. Much of this is in online articles and blog posts. I seek out and read as much information as I can on the topic. Some of what I read is not very good, some of it is really ood, and some of it is great. Here are links to some of the best articles and blog posts on Christian mediation and meditating on God’s word that I’ve read in recent weeks. These are presented in no particular order. I hope you enjoy them!

As I find new articles and essays on Christian meditation and meditating on the scriptures, I’ll be periodically posting links to the ones that like the best and that I believe will give you the most value for your time spent reading and studying them. That’s why I called this, “Volume 1.” If you are aware of some articles, essays, or blog posts you would like me to consider for future volumes, feel free to contact me with a link to them. The Mindful Worship Web Site Has Been Redesigned!

March 9th, 2009 - Categories: News

March 2009 Mindful Worship Redesign ScreenshotI’ve been wanting to redesign Mindful Worship for quite some time. When I first started the site, I wasn’t expecting it to grow like it has. Now that it is growing, I wanted to make all the content here more accssible. I also wanted to incorporate a new logo that I’ve been working on. I really like minimalistic and clean web sites and this is reflected in this design. I realize that everyone isn’t like me though and that I can’t please everyone with any site design.

One of the things I think everyone will like are the links to all the guided meditations on the left-hand side.

So, what do you think? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you have ideas for improvement? What would you like to see in the site design? What kind of content would you like to see here at Mindful Worship that I’m not already producing? Let me know by posting a comment. This is your chance to let your voice be heard!

Mindful Worship Meditation #20 - Sleep In Peace

March 8th, 2009 - Categories: Premium Guided Meditations

Man Sleeping PeacefullyMany people have told me that they really enjoy doing the New Every Morning when they first wake up. In fact, many people wake up with it by having it automatically begin to play at a certain time. The idea behind New Every Morning was to help prepare myself for the upcoming day. This week’s guided meditation is meant to help you close out your day just as you retire for the evening and to help you Sleep in Peace.

Although it’s not necessary to do this meditation after you lay down in bed, it is written with the assumption that you will do it very close to bed time. You’ll probably enjoy doing it while you are lying down and then just drifting off to peaceful sleep at the end. If you’re listening using headphones or earbuds with wires, be sure to take them off before you actually to sleep. As always, let me know what you think about this meditation in the comments. Mindful Worship Meditation #19 - For God So Loved

March 1st, 2009 - Categories: Free Guided Meditations, Guided Meditations

John 3:16 is probably the most well known and most loved Bible verse in the world. In only a few words, it encapsulates the entirety of the gospel. You may have committed it to memory, but have you ever really meditated on it? Have you chewed on this verse like a sheep chews grass to get every bit of flavor and nutrition from it that you can? In this meditation, we’ll contemplate this verse in small sections, allowing God to reveal to you meaning and application for your life—for God so loved.

Although most of my listeners have probably already accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, it’s possible that you may not have. If this meditation helps you recognize the incredible gift God has given you in Jesus and you decide to completely trust Him as a result of this meditation, please email me and let me know so I can pray for you and help you in your Christian walk.
